Everything on this site is written by the team that built and ran SnapFrom, a media downloader for YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, X and Pinterest, from 2024 until we shut it down in August 2026.
Why that matters for this subject
Running the tool is where the knowledge came from. Keeping downloads working across five platforms meant tracking what each one changed and when, which methods degraded quality, which broke without warning, and which stopped being defensible. We maintained a proxy pool, a cookie pool and a bypass system, and we watched all three lose to platform changes on a regular basis.
We also stopped. Operating a downloader turned out to be the part that could not be defended, and shutting it down is the most useful thing we know about the category. That is the perspective this blog is written from: not "here is a tool", but "here is what this actually costs and why it breaks".
How we write now
- Claims carry sources. Every statement about what a platform permits or does cites the platform's own terms or documentation, with a line naming the specific claim the source supports. We do not cite blogs summarising a primary source, and we never cite our own properties as evidence for a fact.
- Costs are named. An article that describes a method also says what it degrades, what it violates, and when it will stop working.
- Ownership is disclosed in the article. Where a page mentions something we own or used to own, it says so there, not in a policy page. Old disclosures become dated historical notes rather than being deleted.
- We do not refer readers to replacement downloaders. Writing about downloading is defensible; operating a referral desk for the category we just exited is not.
- No AI-generated images. Typography cards, diagrams and real screenshots only.
